I used to find pet owners weird until a baby chowchow came into our lives.
Now I understand why people post pictures of their pets, give them names, dress them up, and talk about them like they are the cutest things that ever existed on this planet!
Kobe Chow came to our lives exactly a year ago today. He was bought from a pet shop by my brother and his girlfriend.
Our lives have never been the same since.
We are now cautious to lock the gates and doors of the house for fear of Kobe a.k.a. Boy Takas running away. We now have to say “Excuse Meeeee” when asking Kobe to move his lazy butt away from the main door. We take turns in getting ice cubes from the freezer to indulge him with a few pieces. We order Mojos Supreme from Shakey’s because he’ll surely consume half of it.
When going on trips, we now consider dog-friendly places or come home early to feed and walk Kobe. We all keep quiet when he is trying to be fed for fear that he’ll lose his concentration and not finish his food. We all got heartbroken when the vet adviced us to shave Kobe’s hair for now. When our parents call us, the first thing they now ask is “How’s Kobe?”
We got lucky. Most chowchows are hot-tempered. Our Kobe is the sweetest and laziest chow! He allows us to smother him. I hug him for minutes and he doesn’t even complain! When he gets irritated from too much smothering, he will just slowly wiggle his way out of my arms, walk away, then slump over a new found area on the floor. When we have visitors, he welcomes them by smelling their feet, bags, and other paraphernalia that could harm us.
Oh I could go on and on with funny and endearing stories for days but who’s got the time? Instead, I’ll just post Polaroid pictures of the birthday boy! 🙂
Happy 1st birthday, Kobe! Please stay with us longer. 🙂
