THE MAKEUP DEN

DO WHAT YOU LOVE

If I had all the money in the world to support my travels, I probably wouldn’t be a marketing manager but a full-time makeup artist instead. Painting faces is something I will do even without pay.

Lately, I’ve been so busy with my day job that I had to decline a few makeup gigs already. Now I’m missing makeup too much that I told my French friend Amelie that I would blog about it soon and that she’d be my model.

MAKEUP ESSENTIALS
Preparing for the big move to Europe has forced me to streamline everything that I own, makeup included.

Here’s what’s left inside my personal makeup kit:

20120531-222320.jpg

LIPS: Petroleum jelly, Lip Smacker Coca-cola balm, Shu Uemura 944 (my natural lip color), Rimmel London in Shocking Pink (my signature lip shade)

FACE: Revlon PhotoReady Primer, Revlon PhotoReady Liquid Foundation in Medium Beige, Revlon PhotoReady Airbrush Foundation in Medium Beige (If it’s not yet obvious, I’m a fan of Revlon’s PhotoReady range! I like it coz of its illuminating particles that make my skin look flawless especially in pictures. It doesn’t hurt that each product is less than a thousand pesos only!)

20120531-223014.jpg

CONTOUR and GLOSS: Revlon PhotoReady Palette (Can serve as contour powder, blush, bronzer, highlighter and eyeshadow!!!), Bobbi Brown Peach corrector (the secret of makeup artists), Makeup Designory pink lipgloss, Makeup Designory matte brown eyeshadow (my favorite base for the lids and contour powder for the nose bridge).

20120531-223351.jpg

EYES: Lancome Bridal Palette, Sephora Smokey Eyes Palette, K-Palette Tattoo Brown and Black Long-lasting Liners (the best in the market!)

20120531-223617.jpg

TOOLS: Watsons Eyebrow shaver (I can’t live without this so I’m bringing a box to Europe!), Shu Uemura curlash (Alternative brand: Shiseido), Maybelline Waterproof Colossal Volume Express Mascara (Maybelline is my go-to brand for effective no-smudge mascaras!), Marionnaud Premium makeup brushes (available at Watsons! Super cheap yet superb quality!)

20120531-224034.jpg

HAIR: Brown bobby pins, brown ponytail, gold and black Evita Peroni clip, Black Mesh Bag where I keep everything in! I like mesh coz it’s not as messy as plastic when it gets wet, it’s see-through, and cheap!

AMELIE
As promised, here’s Amelie to help me show you my extended makeup routine:

1) PREP FACE

20120531-224353.jpg

I shape my eybrows with a shaver everyday and have it threaded once a month. This is the first thing I do as I don’t want the fallen hair to stick on my face if I do it next to let’s say, putting primer.

On a clean face, I put primer on areas that need to be smoothened or those with signs of aging/wrinkling.

Then I dab a corrector underneath my eyes and on dark circles I want neutralized.

2) PUT BASE

20120531-224817.jpg

After my face has been prepped, it’s ready for foundation. I’m fond of using the latest innovation of Revlon called airbrush technology. The product is in a pump bottle that creates a foam-type and well-mixed foundation for a really smooth finish. Then I use the darkest color in the Revlon palette to contour my cheekbones and nose bridge.

3) DEFINE EYES

I then brush my eyebrows upward and fill-it up with the K-palette brown liner. I then put subtle brown eyeshadow topped with an irridescent color on the lids to make my eyes pop. To further define the eye, I use a black pointed liner and trace as close to my lashline as possible.

5) CURL LASHES; APPLY LIPSTICK

I curl my lashes and put on mascara. Then I apply my favorite lipstick shade.

6) APPLY BLUSH

Lastly, I dust my favorite pink blush upward in a circular whispy motion from the apple of my cheeks to just above the jawline.

Here are Amelie’s 2 looks by moi:

bright eyes + dark lips

dark eyes + pale lips

Amelie did the lomo thing on her camera and she looked like Victoria Beckham mixed with Halle Berry features:

That’s it for now! I still need to finish a budget report for work!

I’m teaching personal makeup at the Makeup Designory School (Pure Beauty Store in Serendra). Call Lorraine at this number– 09178784438 –to join my July 1, 2012 class!!! That might be the last class I’m gonna be holding in the Philippines for a long time. Book NOW!!!

Ciao,
d.
