METROWEAR ICON

Samsung and Metro Magazine hosted the first Philippine gala of Hollywood-based Filipino designer Oliver Tolentino in Sofitel. Oliver has a shop along the world-famous Melrose Avenue in West Hollywood, California.

Our office is a stone’s throw away from Sofitel so attending the event on a Monday after work was not really a problem.  Asked my friend Benjie Angeles if I could meet him at the hotel so I can have my hair done there. He was hired by the editors of Metro Magazine to do their hair and makeup as well. [Thanks to the fabulous editors of Metro for letting me crash! :)]

Since I was in a very simple suit, I asked the L’oreal team to make my hair really big. I couldn’t wear closed shoes because I injured my toe. 😦 [Why does this kind of thing happen to me during Fashion Week, of all weeks?!]

While waiting for me at the lobby of Sofitel, Watsons Trading Manager Jared de Guzman, met this lovely lady from New York, Ruby Veridiano. She’s a glamour girl off to change the world! Seriously. Click HERE to read her blog and know more about this very interesting writer, speaker and media personality. “Learning is talking to that stranger seated beside you.” -Ruby

The show started with a video of Metrowear’s Brand Ambassadors talking about the Man of the Hour.

I was moved by this quote from Oliver himself: “I had to leave in order to come home.”

My favorite pieces and Oliver’s surprise muses:

[Bianca Valerio did a very good job in modelling these dreamy dresses!]

[Supermodel Tweetie De Leon’s strong presence on the catwalk was still very apparent!][Sweetheart Models Divine Lee and Victor Basa – inseparable!]

[Actor Jake Cuenca and Muse Tessa Prieto-Valdes gave the audience a few laughs acting all sweet to each other 🙂 ]

[VJ Joey Mead looked oh so sexy!][Actress Empress Schuck was probably the youngest model that night]

[Singer Kuh Ledesma was a surprise! She sashayed sexily on the runway. The audience loved her!]

[Traipsing gracefully through the runway is something you’d rarely see young models do these days. Supermodel Marina Benipayo showed everyone how they used to do it in the 80s.]

[Venus Raj mesmerized everyone!]

[The funny final walk! :)]

[Designer Oliver Tolentino thanked the audience who gave him a standing ovation.]

Congratulations to Metro Magazine, ABS-CBN Publishing, Samsung and Oliver Tolentino for a fantastic show!

More Power to the Filipino Creative Talent,

d.
