DAILY HABIT

MORNING RITUAL

Last week, I got a memo from Human Resources for tardiness.

We’re supposed to be at work at 9A.M. NO GRACE PERIODS. 4 tardy punch-ins in a month and you automatically receive a love letter. What.A.Bummer, right?

But such is life.

That’s my second memo in 11 months and I refuse to get a 3rd one. I have no choice but find ways on how I can arrive at the office before that bundy clock strikes 9! Parang Cinderella lang talaga!

What’s the cause of delay?

Honest Answer: Checking blogs and social networking sites. Aysuz!

Admit it, the first thing you do as soon as you open your peepers is check your phone!

I check my accounts in this order: Facebook, Blackberry Messenger, Twitter, GChat, Chictopia, Email, Mobile Inbox.

Then I open my laptop and read my favorite blogs that are bookmarked on my Chrome. I have a longer list of blogs in my Google Reader that I check as soon as I get to the office but that’s another story.

Crafted Solution:

1) NO CHECKING OF BLOGS AT HOME.

2) NO LAPTOPS ON THE BED.

3) NO REPLYING TO FB MESSAGES. I shall only reply when I’m already in the car.

It was hard at first. Para akong adik on withdrawal, I swear! But after 5 days, I think I’m already used to it. I don’t feel like I’m attached to my mobile phone or my laptop anymore. It’s such a liberating feeling! 🙂

I now arrive 5 minutes before 9! Improvement na yan noh! Anong magagawa ko kung talagang matraffic sa EDSA diba? Sa MOA kaya ang trabaho ko! #defensive

But yes, it works.

DAILY DOSE

There are blogs I visit everyday, with no fail. I read them as soon as I open my laptop at work (before 9am!). I check these sites before I sleep as well.

It’s now really a content-driven world. Regardless of format– print or digital, we now seek information that excite or inspire us. We bookmark, share and like.

Allow me to share with you those at the top of my list:

NEWS / CURRENT AFFAIRS

When I was in grade 4, our History teacher would give us a 10-point quiz on current events everyday! There  was a time I got  a 2 out of 10 because I left the newspaper at home and failed to read it while in the school bus. From that day on, I kind of imbibed that habit of checking what’s happening around the world. Feeling ko kasi araw-araw may quiz pa rin! Thanks to mobile apps, I get to check CNN, Time and the Associated Press with just one click!

1. CNN

2. TIME

3. AP

LIFESTYLE/TRAVEL

From serious world news, I jump to checking-out current chismis, the most happening events in Manila, and to quote Chuvaness’ tagline, whatever is hip to print. I have a longer list but these are the staples when I only have a short time to spend net-surfing.

1. CHUVANESS

2. DAPHNE

3. THE BAGHAG DIARIES

4. DA PATTY

FASHION/DESIGN/MAKEUP

As a former magazine publisher, I used to check-out fashion sites as part of my job. I never outgrew the habit. I still check fashion, beauty and design websites up to now. I used to check about 20 in a day but these remained to be my all-time favorites:

1. WOMEN’S WEAR DAILY

2. SEA OF SHOES

3. THE GLAMOURAI

4. MY VIBE MY LIFE

5. THE SELBY

6. DESIGN SPONGE

7. KANDEE JOHNSONBUSINESS/MARKETING

I’m now a marketing manager for a retail chain. My job is to churn out marketing ideas all the time. These sites give me inspiration and the tools to be more scientific in my approach.

1. SETH GODIN’S BLOG

2. TED

3. SPRINGWISE

Enjoy reading! But try not to be late for work!

Happy blog-hopping,

d.
